What Rate Class Will You Qualify For?

(Basic Rules - But There Are Exceptions & HassanHelps Finds Them)

The Ratings Ladder

Your Life Insurance Rating Isn't Just About Negotiation: In today's tech-driven world, insurance companies can access extensive details about your health, including doctor's records, lab tests from insurance exams, prescription history, and your MIB report. This wealth of information helps them identify high-risk factors accurately. They use this data to determine your insurance rate. However, if an underwriter overlooks something, HassanHelps can step in to ensure your health profile is seen in the best possible light. Every insurance company uses its guidelines and views health profiles differently, specializing in areas like weight, diabetes, sleep apnea, or anxiety.

Finding the right insurance company is what HassanHelps specializes in.

Understanding the "Ratings Ladder": After reviewing your health, the underwriter assigns you a spot on what we call the "Ratings Ladder," with 12 levels—1 being the cheapest, and 12 priciest. There's a different ladder for each age and gender. Everyone begins at Standard Rate, or rung 4. Your health details can move you up or down. For instance, being diabetic might initially place you at rung 6, but good management could bring you back down to rungs 3 or 4. At HassanHelps, our goal is to highlight the positives in your health profile to ensure you land on the lowest possible rung.

Here are the common names for the levels on the ratings ladder.

Preferred Plus. Rung 1

Clients on few medications with no major health history. Only 2% get this rate.

Preferred Plus. Rung 2

For clients on minimal medications with mild conditions like Blood Pressure and Cholesterol. 5% receive this rate.

Standard Plus. Rung 3

This rate is for those slightly overweight or on meds for depression, sleep apnea, certain diabetes types, and some cancers. Around 13% qualify.

Standard Plus. Rung 4

This rate is often the best for people 20-30 lbs overweight, with diabetes, a history of cancer, or heart issues. Around 30% qualify for this rate.

Table Ratings. Rung 5 to 12

Half of the approved clients are placed into one of 8 table ratings, where each table means a 25% higher rate than the standard. For example, if the standard premium is $1000 a year, Table 2 would cost $1500. This is for those with less managed diabetes, heart issues, long-term narcotic pain medication use, and other conditions. Discuss your health details with your agent for an accurate quote.
